Additionally, our state of the art Red Bank rehabilitation facility accommodates to those individuals seeking a licensed NJ physical therapist to create and guide work out programs to lose weight, improve flexibility for golf, or simply to be healthier.

Below is a list of the various types of active rehabilitation that our Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation licensed physical therapists utilize:

Neuromuscular Re-education

Neuromuscular Re-education includes but is not limited to Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), vibrational therapy and balance retraining. If one of our New Jersey patient’s has a gait deficit, then specific one on one functional rehabilitation designed to improve gait such as guiding a patient with eyes closed on a balance beam or assisting them as they perform a series of one legged eyes closed exercises on the vibration plate are common methods. For example, one of our patients suffers from carpal tunnel syndrome, is a chef in Monmouth County and has a deficit in holding a pan for prolonged periods of time. Holding the pan over the grill is necessary for him to perform his work functions. We may employ neuromuscular reeducation to retrain the muscles surrounding the wrist. In this example we may employ a Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) type of exercise while the patient repeats the action that he is unable to perform at work. Of course, this type of therapy is always performed one on one with the practitioner facilitating the neuromuscular function.

Therapeutic Activities

Therapeutic Activities is defined as, direct (one on one) patient contact by the provider (use of dynamic activities to improve functional performance), each 15 minutes, and is used to report dynamic therapeutic activities. Dynamic therapeutic activities include the use of multiple parameters, such as balance, strength, and range of motion, which are designed to achieve improved functional performance. Examples include lifting stations, closed kinetic chain activity, hand assembly activity, transfers (chair to bed, lying to sitting, etc), and throwing, catching, or swinging. This procedure requires direct (one on one) patient contact by a physician or therapist.

Dynamic activities to improve functional performance refers to a series of movements to perform specific functions. The series of movements is therapeutic in nature; it is planned and specific.

An example would be a series of movements designed to gradually increase flexibility, strength and coordination through the use of graduated weights using a closed kinetic chain device under direct one on one supervision and guidance by a licensed New Jersey practitioner. The action is designed to simulate related activities such as picking up a plate and lifting it up into a cupboard, picking up a hammer and placing it in another location, etc.

Therapeutic Exercise

Therapeutic exercise is used for strengthening, endurance training, and other interventions associated with improving flexibility and range of motion.

” The AMA CPT Guidelines indicate that “[t]herapeutic exercise incorporates one parameter (strength, endurance, range of motion or flexibility) to one or more areas of the body. Examples include, treadmill (for endurance), isokinetic exercise (for range of motion), lumbar stabilization exercises (for flexibility), and gymnastic ball (for stretching or strengthening)”.

In our Red Bank New Jersey facility we utilize the following forms of equipment and devices to facilitate therapeutic exercise with our patients: recumbent bikes, Elliptical Motion, Gymballs, Therabands, hand putty, vibration plate, cable cross, and more.
