Pain Management
Something
new is happening at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation: for
Holmdel patients suffering from auto
accident injuries, sports injuries,
back pain, neck
pain, and other disabling conditions, our pain
management and rehabilitation office is now offering a different
type of care.
By
integrating non-surgical medical care, physical therapy, acupuncture,
massage therapy, and chiropractic care in one location, Holmdel
pain management patients are now able to find effective and
conservative rehabilitation without the hassle of traveling back
and forth between healthcare offices in search of the best available
practitioners.
By
including all of these treatment modalities in one location, Monmouth
Pain and Rehabilitation is able to offer fully integrated,
cooperative strategies to help patients get out of pain and moving
once again. The ultimate goal is to help patients rehabilitate without
the need for excessive or prolonged drug use, and to avoid surgery
whenever possible. This objective has become a reality for our Holmdel
pain management patients.

Pain Management: Medical Care
and Physical Therapy
The
Medical Director at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation is board
certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). This
type of doctor is an expert in diagnosing and treating pain. Our
physician works hand-in-hand with our physical therapy staff to
help patients heal after an accident, injury, or illness.
At
Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation, physical therapy concentrates
on a number of basic goals: to help patients heal after an injury;
to maximize or return the potential for movement when mobility has
been restricted by an injury or illness; and to regain or build
strength to prevent future disability.
Injections
of a long-lasting steroid or an anesthetic numbing agent may be
used when patients are in extreme pain. For example, Epidural Steroid
Injections may be used to treat pain associated with inflammation
of the spinal nerves such as lower back pain, sciatica or arthritis.
For pain and inflammation in the joints, Facet Joint Injections
may be used, while Trigger Point Injections are helpful for myofascial
(muscle) pain. Others may require Sacroiliac Injections, Coccyx
Injections, Peripheral Joint Injections, or Sympathetic Blocks.

Acupuncture and Chiropractic
Care for Pain Relief
As
part of an ongoing commitment to healthy pain management, acupuncture
is offered at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation. Acupuncture
is a painless, drug-free, and effective treatment for the relief
of pain. It is also effective in reducing anxiety, enhancing mood,
and lowering blood pressure. Modern studies have shown that acupuncture
enhances the release of certain neurotransmitters, namely serotonin
and endorphins. Both of these play a role in the relief of pain
and in improving the mental state of patients.
For
some patients, misalignments in the spine due to trauma or long-term
postural issues can lead to pain and disability. Studies have shown
that certain spinal misalignments (known as subluxations) can, over
time, degrade health and lead to a shorter
lifespan. On a more basic level, it’s important to view
the health of the spine as a crucial element in pain management.
When the spine is not in perfect health, the nervous system (responsible
for pain) cannot function properly. Chiropractic care ensures the
total health of the spine so that the nervous system (as well as
the immune system) is free to operate properly.
