With
a wide variety of treatment options, from physical
therapy and chiropractic to
steroid injections or viscosupplementation,
there is no reason to let knee pain stop you from staying active.
The knee pain specialists at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation
are committed to resolving your knee pain issues so that you can
get back to your favorite activities—running, hiking, tennis,
etc— without pain.
You
don’t have to live with pain and the majority of
knee pain sufferers do not require surgery. The long-term
use of painkilling medications is also not the answer.
In
order to begin to live without knee pain, you must first find
the cause of the condition and then begin a comprehensive, customized,
and conservative program of rehabilitation. When the pain is ignored
or neglected, the knee will continue to be painful and will eventually
require surgical intervention.
Our
unique Knee Pain Rehabilitation Program corrects structural and
functional problems in the knee by getting to the underlying cause
of the problem. As part of a revolutionary new form of pain management
and rehabilitation, we are a group of medical doctors, physical
therapists, acupuncturists, and chiropractors committed to fixing
your knee problem with multi-disciplinary solutions.
The
Knee Pain Rehabilitation Program at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation
begins with a full diagnosis. During this process, the Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist at Monmouth Pain and
Rehabilitation will rule out serious medical conditions, assess
the condition of the body, and develop an effective treatment
plan.
At
our Red Bank, NJ pain management and rehabilitation facility,
our mission is to help patients manage pain while allowing the
body to heal through conservative, healthy practices such as chiropractic
care, physical therapy, and/or acupuncture. Often, this allows
patients to avoid unnecessary surgeries and medication. (All of
these rehabilitation practices—medical care, physical therapy,
acupuncture, and chiropractic—are offered in our Red Bank,
NJ pain management office.)
Minimally
invasive procedures—such as joint injections or viscosupplementation—are
incorporated into our practice to assist the body in this process.
In this way, more patients can take advantage of our rehabilitation
center (and avoid surgery or drugs whenever possible).
Joint
Injections for Knee Pain: Reducing Inflammation and Pain
Some
patients are unable to undergo conservative rehabilitation practices
(i.e. physical therapy, chiropractic) because of pain. In such
cases, our Medical Doctor may use joint injections to reduce inflammation
and pain. This practice involves the injection of a corticosteroid
in the affected area. Corticosteroids work by suppressing the
production of substances that produce an inflammatory response
in the body. Because it is injected into the specific inflamed
area, higher concentrations of medicine can be given with fewer
side effects.
For
knee pain caused by degenerative joint disease or osteoarthritis,
extra fluid in the knee (effusion) may develop. This fluid may
be removed before corticosteroids are administered to reduce pain
and inflammation.
At
Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation Center, joint injections are
performed with the guidance of Ultrasound imaging. This technique
allows the doctor to view the musculoskeletal system in real time,
thereby ensuring the precision, accuracy, and effectiveness of
such injections.
Viscosupplementation
for Knee Pain
Viscosupplementation
is the process of injecting hyaluronic acid into the knee joint.
This substance acts a lubricant to provide shock absorption for
joint loads and to help the bones move smoothly over each other.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the fluid of the joints; knee
pain sufferers often have a lower concentration of hyaluronic
acid in their joints. This technique has been proven to relieve
pain in patients who are unable to benefit from rehabilitative
practices or analgesic medications.
