Dr. Joseph Mejia, D.O., Red Bank NJ Pain Management Dr. Mejia is board certified in Physiatry, a medical specialty also known as Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). He is also fellowship-trained interventional pain management. After completing his residency at NYU/Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation, he received fellowship training in Interventional Pain/Musculoskeletal Medicine at UMDNJ/Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. Dr. Mejia works under the paradigm that ‘less is more’; this conservative methodology allows him to help patients reduce symptoms with as little pharmaceutical and/or surgical intervention as possible. Dr. Mejia uses Fluoroscopy and Ultrasound — imaging techniques that allow physicians to assess and treat musculoskeletal conditions and perform injection techniques such as Epidural Steroid Injections, Facet Injections, Sacroiliac Joint Injections, Radiofrequency Ablation, and Peripheral Joint Injections (shoulders, hips, knees, etc). Injections are used only when necessary to reduce pain and inflammation so that patients may reap the benefits of rehabilitation. Education and Credentials Dr. Mejia completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he received a B.S. in Biology. He then earned his D.O. degree (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and fellowship-trained in Interventional Pain/Musculoskeletal Medicine. He holds medical licenses in both the state of New Jersey as well as New York. Dr. Mejia is also deeply committed to continuing education, and regularly attends and completes courses and workshops to remain current in his field. He is also quite active in the community, participating whenever possible as a medical volunteer. Dr. Mejia resides in Clifton, NJ and is married with three children. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, playing basketball, and spending time with his family. |
