New
Jersey Pain Management and Rehabilitation for Auto Accident Injuries
Monmouth
Pain recognizes that the aftermath of an auto accident can be
both painful and emotionally exhausting. In fact, our Rehabilitation
Director, Thomas Dandrea, D.C. was involved in a serious
accident in Red Bank in the summer of 2011, thereby giving
our entire practice a more intimate perspective on the unique
challenges faced by patients with car crash injuries.
When
Dr. Dandrea was run over by an SUV, he experienced a broken leg,
a compression fracture in a lumbar vertebra (in the lower back),
and a serious concussion. The good news? When the accident took
place, he was in the company of not one but two pain management
specialists as well as one of Monmouth County’s top chiropractors.
Even
better, our office provides Physical Therapy and Acupuncture in
addition to Chiropractic and Medical Pain Management for car accident
rehabilitation. This means that patients only need to visit one
office in order to find rehabilitation and pain management for
auto accident injuries. This simple fact eliminates a huge amount
of stress from the process—and anyone who’s been in
a serious accident will understand why it’s so important
to reduce stress, both for emotional and physical reasons.
Injuries
associated with auto accidents include Whiplash,
Neck Pain, and Back
Pain. The following list includes a number of other common
injuries and symptoms:
After an accident of any kind, there are several courses of action
to avoid. The first of these is to ignore symptoms, thereby leaving
the body vulnerable to further injury and chronic
pain. Others assume that, because no symptoms are immediately
apparent, they must be in good health. However, we know that some
injuries (whiplash in particular) are notorious for taking time
to develop.
One
of the very worst ways to deal with an injury is to medicate symptoms
rather than treat whatever’s causing them. By contrast,
Dr. Dandrea completely avoided painkillers during his recovery,
instead opting to take advantage of the pain-relieving
effects of acupuncture in our Red Bank office while undergoing
physical rehabilitation. There’s a good reason our physicians
prescribe pain medications only when absolutely necessary and
for short periods of time. Learn more here
about the deleterious effects of pain drugs.
Our
office is also very seriously dedicated to helping patients stay
away from the operating table whenever possible. Surgery should
be viewed strictly as a method of last resort. When patients are
in serious pain—pain severe enough to restrict what is possible
in terms of physical therapy and chiropractic—we don’t
immediately assume that surgery is the next step.
Instead,
we consider the many non-surgical options available to patients
in pain. Epidural Steroid Injections,
for example, provide localized pain relief for back pain. In many
cases, this makes it possible for patients to avoid the dangers
of pain pills and to rehabilitate with physical therapy and/or
chiropractic.
