At

of time and will work with you to implement this form of healing
into your treatment. Our Red Bank facility provides Reiki and additional
forms of massage treatment at one hour and one and a half hour sessions.
What
is Reiki?
Reiki
(pronounced ray-kee) is a form of ancient Japanese energy healing
that focuses on the manipulation of Ki, the Japanese version of
Chi. “Rei” means “spirit” or “free
passage” and “ki” means “universal life
energy”. Reiki was developed in 1922 by Dr. Mikao Usui after
a 21 day retreat on Mount Kurama, involving meditation, fasting,
and prayer.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation.
It has become a widely used form of alternative medicine. The basic
idea of Reiki is that our bodies have an energy field. This energy
field is the key to its health and proper functioning. It travels
through pathways that can become weakened or blocked.
Reiki
works with the seven energy centers, or “chakras”, that
are believed to be connected to the nervous and endocrine systems.
It is completely natural and promotes healing by allowing the “blocked”
energy within us to flow freely. When our energy is low or blocked
by stress or illness, Reiki helps to unblock that energy and promote
healing. It allows our body to work in a more harmonious way so
that we may be happier and healthier. It helps to connect and align
the body, mind, and spirit – as a whole.
What
does Reiki Involve and How Long Does Treatment Last?
Reiki
involves the practitioner using a sequence of hand positions on
the patients’ body; however, it can be done without directly
touching the patient if they desire or if the patient cannot be
physically touched. The goal is for the trained Reiki Practitioner
to detect and alleviate problems in the patients’ energy flow
on a physical, spiritual, and emotional level, thus relieving pain
and stress and improving health.
A
typical Reiki session at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation lasts
about an hour to an hour and a half. The patient lies fully clothed,
typically on a massage table, while the practitioner focuses on
giving healing energy to the patient. In each position, the hands
are held still, unlike in massage, and the patient and practitioner
attempt to stay positive, aware, and open to healing. Patients must
have a proper attitude for Reiki to work effectively and they must
want to be healed. Dr. Usui believed that a healing attitude was
free from fear and worry and full of gratitude for life and others
around us. In this mind set, anything is possible. He believed –
and wants others to believe –
"The
secret method of inviting good fortune…
The marvelous medicine for all sickness…
Just for today:
Do not be angry
Do not worry
Be grateful
Work with integrity
Be kind to others.” –Dr. Mikao Usui
