Asthma Treatments at Monmouth Pain

Monmouth Pain’s approach to those that suffer from asthma is based on the idea of improving lunch function through acupuncture and chiropractic techniques. Acupuncture can work to improve lung function by improving circulation to the arteries that support the lungs. Chiropractic can work to decrease the tension on the nerves that support the lungs. Together, acupuncture and chiropractic help many asthma sufferers. These techniques are all-natural, safe, and effective and are designed to serve as an adjunct to your or your child’s current asthma treatment program.

Asthma is the most prevalent health condition among children. This chronic lung disease is a very serious health concern and can be a life-threatening condition if not treated properly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines asthma as,“…a disease that affects your lungs. It causes repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and nighttime or early morning coughing.” What does this mean for children? It means a frightening experience in which the smooth muscle cells in the bronchi constrict, airways become inflamed and swollen, and breathing becomes difficult.

A Widespread Issue

The statistics surrounding asthma occurrence in children are staggering; according to the CDC, there are seven million children in the U.S. currently suffering from asthma. This number means that over nine percent of the population’s children have asthma. Of these seven million kids, nearly a quarter of them make at least one trip to the emergency room every year. Fourteen million school days are lost each year to asthma symptoms. Even worse, asthma can be fatal. While a 2006 study from the CDC reported that asthma death rates for children have steadily declined since 1999, even low mortality numbers are unacceptable, particularly since asthma deaths are largely preventable.
