Monmouth County Auto Accident Injury Program for Back Injuries

Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation provides pain management and rehabilitation for car accident-related back injuries by offering Medical Care, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, and Chiropractic Treatment—and all in one location. In addition to simplifying the recovery process, we also help patients to avoid surgeries whenever possible. Through our Auto Accident Injury Program, all of our practitioners are dedicated to using effective, healthy, and conservative treatment plans in order to get injury sufferers back to normal or enhanced functioning, without pain.

After an auto accident, it’s important to seek out the attention of a medical doctor that specializes in the types of injuries that occur during a crash. A Physiatrist, for example, is a medical specialist that focuses on the non-surgical treatment of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal and neurological systems of the body. The Medical Director at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation is a Physiatrist who works with our entire team of healthcare workers—physical therapists, chiropractic doctors, and acupuncturists—to treat back pain and injuries.

Pain doesn’t always begin immediately after an accident, but this does not mean that an injury has not taken place. For other patients, pain develops over time and may or may not be linked in the sufferer’s mind with the auto accident. In any case, neglecting to address the warning signs offered by the body (pain, numbness, etc) can lead to chronic pain and/or arthritis (due to progressive imbalance in the spine), an increased risk of future injury, and a decreased ability to move normally or participate in athletic activity.

If you are experiencing back pain from an auto accident or think you may have been otherwise injured in an accident, it is important to seek treatment. Please fill out the form below or call 732-345-1377 to request a consult in our Shrewsbury, Wall, or Lacey office. We work with most major insurance providers.

Physical Therapy for Back Injuries

Some of the more common back injuries suffered during an auto accident are herniated discs. When the trauma of a crash causes spinal disc material to move out of normal positioning, this can put pressure on the spinal nerves and cause pain. In addition to a number of PT treatment options, Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation may use Spinal Decompression Traction to gently separate the bones of the spine. Not only does this action lift pressure from the nerves to temporarily relieve pain, it also allows the spinal discs to move back into normal positioning (through a vacuum-like effect in which spinal material is ‘sucked’ back into place) for the resolution and healing of herniated discs.

Other physical therapy techniques used at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation include therapeutic exercise, which is sometimes aided with PowerPlate whole body vibration. Exercise helps back injury patients to increase range-of-motion, improve flexibility, and reduce pain. It also helps patients to build strength, which is essential for reducing the likelihood of future injury. Passive physical therapy may also be incorporated for Monmouth County back injury patients, including laser therapy, electrotherapy, ultrasound, and/or ice and heat.

Back Injuries and Interventional Pain Management

Auto accident-related back injuries can cause severe and restrictive pain that may force patients to become immobile. In such cases, physical therapy or chiropractic treatment may not be viable options. It is often in these situations that surgery may be considered.

At Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation, we recognize the traumatic nature of surgery and offer minimally invasive procedures to reduce pain and inflammation so that patients can begin to heal using healthy, non-surgical practices. For example, Epidural Steroid Injections are sometimes used when back pain impedes the healing process. Our office also provides Coccyx Injections (for painful tailbone injuries) or Facet Joint Injections (for pain in the joints of the spine).

Chiropractic Treatment for Back Pain and Auto Accident Injuries

Chiropractic care is an intuitive choice for auto accident injuries. This healthcare specialty corrects issues within the spine for better overall health and less pain. It’s important to recognize the relationship between the positioning of the spine and the health of the body’s nervous system, which controls the functions of the body. The spine must be in good health in order for the nervous system—and the entire body—to be in proper working order.

Chiropractic care can also directly address issues that are causing pain, including sciatica and herniated discs. At Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation, the primary form of chiropractic offered is known as Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP). CBP concentrates on the total health of the spine and is based on the sciences of physics and biomechanics.

Acupuncture has a two major benefits for patients suffering with back injuries after an auto accident: this technique relieves both physical suffering as well as emotional/psychological pain that often comes after an auto accident or during any rehabilitation program. Acupuncture is an excellent method of alleviating pain, anxiety, and depression. This type of care can also help patients to reduce the need for painkilling medications by prompting the body to release endorphins, which are natural pain-relieving chemicals similar in structure to opiate painkillers.
