Red Bank New Jersey Acupuncture and Quitting Smoking

Apr 22, 2009 | Acupuncture

A friend came into my office a few weeks back and informed me that he and his wife were expecting their first child. In preparation for this event, he expressed his desire to quit smoking. He decided to meet with our on-staff acupuncturist. After receiving acupuncture treatment, Scott was able to quit smoking within 48 hours. I met up with Scott the following week and he told me that the acupuncture treatment removed a lot of the withdrawal symptoms including anxiety that prevented him from successfully kicking the habit before. I have to say that I was not surprised. I have heard this numerous times before. Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things one can do in this life. Acupuncture can help. Following are some reasons why acupuncture is a great solution for those ready to kick the habit:

1) Acupuncture is a fantastic stress reducer: Anyone that has quit smoking or attempted to quit smoking in the past understands how reducing stress can surely help. I have heard many of my friends that have attempted to quit smoking say that they were doing well until a hard day at work, a bad piece of news, or an unexpected change of plans. Let’s face it. There is nothing one can do to prevent these types of things. What one can do is prepare for these challenges during withdrawal by reducing our stress. Acupuncture is a great modality to do so.

2) No patches, gums, or pills: There are numerous types of products on the market that claim to help smokers wean off the narcotic in an easier fashion. The problem with these products is that the smoker is basically swapping one addiction for another. Many people have used these products to rid themselves of the cigarettes to only find that they are still addicted to nicotine and are now using these products instead of smoking. Eventually, this leads many of these people back to the habit before long. Acupuncture can help give you the leg up on the addiction without any additional artificial support.

3) A few short treatments, a lifetime of better breathing: The good news is that there are only a few acupuncture treatments needed before many of our patients are ready to kick the habit. Each treatment takes a matter of minutes and you will be in and out of the facility before you know it. The level of commitment needed for acupuncture treatment in our Red Bank New Jersey facility is nominal compared to the relief and better health you will be feeling once that last cigarette is extinguished once and for all.

4) Taking the first step: A commitment to acupuncture is a great step forward. Quitting smoking is not easy and the biggest hurdle to get over is the mental connection to the narcotic. A commitment to acupuncture treatment is your first step towards success. The mind has to be trained to not need the cigarette. Acupuncture can be a great way to help break that connection.

Quitting smoking is extremely tough. However, it does not have to be impossible. Acupuncture can help shorten the road to extinguishing that last cigarette. It worked for Scott. It has worked for a number of my other patients. Let acupuncture help you quit smoking.
