Prescription Painkillers vs. Chiropractic
It is important to know why chiropractic is used and how it can be much more beneficial than prescription painkillers. Although prescription painkillers are a temporary solution for your painful and aggravating symptoms, they are detrimental to your health and do not cure the pain you’re feeling. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were 16,235 deaths involving prescription opioids in 2013, an increase of 1% from 2012. This lead to 43,982 total drug overdose deaths in 2013, which is up 6% from 2012.
Not only can prescription painkillers cause addiction, they can be costly. According to a report from the Institute of Medicine in 2011, painkillers had an estimated cost of at least $560-$635 billion a year.
Chiropractic adjustments can be done to alleviate chronic pain in a healthy, non-invasive way. By recognizing that the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) controls all the functions in the body, chiropractic services will locate and eliminate disturbances in the nervous system caused by a subluxation, or a misalignment of the spine. Chiropractic can encourage the body’s natural healing ability and increase its functionality to its maximum capability by fixing misalignments.
Chiropractic is known to treat neck pain, back pain and headaches but is also proven to be effective for a large array of illnesses and conditions such as migraines, allergies, painful menstrual cycles, ear infections, vision issues, seizures, etc.
Our doctors at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation are here to help you determine the best treatment method for your symptoms. Our chiropractors use an analysis called the Chiropractic Biophysics or CBP. This scientific approach has researched how poor posture can place stress on the body and lead to pain and other health problems if not treated correctly. Mental and physical stress produces a condition on an individual’s nervous system and posture.
