Raising a Healthy Family Naturally in New Jersey

A Comparison of Children Raised Under Two Different Health Care Models Chiropractic and Allopathic

I recently came across an interesting research study in the Journal of Chiropractic Research.  This paper analyzed the health of children by looking at two different groups.  The first group was the children of 200 Pediatricians.  The second group was the children of 200 Chiropractors.  At first glance I thought this would turn into an UFC Ultimate Fighting Comparison Study, but it was not.  Instead, this paper was able to point out some interesting comparisons that I have seen with my own children and many of the children under chiropractic care that follow a more natural approach to health.

The study was titled:

A Comparative Study of the Health Status of Children Raised Under the
Health Care Models of Chiropractic and Allopathic Medicine
Journal of Chiropractic Research – Research Forum
Summer 1989; Vol. 5 No. 4, pp. 101-103

Wendy M van Breda, DC and Juan M van Breda, DC

I have listed some of the interesting findings below:

Chiropractic Children

42%
Medical Children

Never Used Any Drugs
(antibiotics excluded)
90%

(antibiotics excluded)

Never Used Antibiotics
12%
Not Immunized

Never Had Allergies

No Occurrence of Ear Infections

No Occurrence of Ear Infections
20%
No Occurrence of Tonsillitis
74%
No Occurrence of Tonsillitis
57%
No Occurrence of Asthma
97%

I found this paper interesting because it shows a “definite correlation between chiropractic care and superior health.”  Chiropractors contend that chiropractic care improves the quality of life, stimulates the immune system, and confers superior health.

Allopathic health care is primarily disease treatment. Chiropractic healthcare is primarily preventative.

Some other interesting points of this study:

•    91% of the chiropractic children started chiropractic care by age 1.

•    95% of the chiropractors considered that chiropractic had a positive effect on
their children’s health.

•    “This study has shown that children raised under chiropractic care are less
prone to infectious processes such as otitis medial and tonsillitis, and that their
immune systems are better able to cope with allergens such as pollen, weeds,
grasses, etc as compared to children raised under allopathic care.”

•    There is a significant decreased history of antibiotic use among the
chiropractic children, “indicating a lower susceptibility to bacterial infections as a
result of greater immune system response.”

•    The chiropractors responded that the “recovery period from any trauma or
illness by their children was more rapid than that of their children’s peers.”

•    Non-immunized chiropractic children who came down with those childhood
diseases seemed to have minor diseases that were not incapacitating. “The
hypothesis that chiropractic care maintains the immune system is supported by the
observation that even though the children did have the disease, their lifestyle was
not affected and the recovery period was short.”

•    Comments from medical pediatricians indicate that a number of them believe
that essentially all children suffer from otitis media (ear infections) and that all children have at least one course of prescribed antibiotics. “These are fallacies propagated within allopathic medicine as demonstrated by this study.”

•    “This study has shown that there is validity in the premise that chiropractic
has a positive effect on the health status of individuals.”

The results of this study confirm the benefits of the chiropractic model of health care on the health status of children. As I have stated before, these are the same types of results that I have seen with my own children.  My children are not vaccinated, they have never been on any type of medication (except for one infection that needed antibiotics on one of my sons.)  My kids get sick less than any other children I know.  When they do get sick, their illness typically lasts a few hours (that is correct, a few hours.)  I adjust them, let them rest, and may give them a homeopathic remedy.  This is how I treat my children and at ages 9, 7, and 4, I have seen that the chiropractic and natural healing model of raising children is incredibly effective.
