Every place has its own legends and mythology. For example, Bradley Beach is supposedly the home of buried treasure left by none other than Captain William Kidd, a once-famous sailor and pirate. In 1679, Kidd anchored his sailing vessel off of Sylvan Lake and spent some time in Bradley Beach (then an unnamed part of the original thirteen colonies). The treasure is purportedly somewhere underneath two large trees on modern-day Brinley Avenue.
Why are we fascinated by this idea of buried treasure? Maybe it’s the idea of getting something for nothing—like playing the lottery or gambling. Or maybe it’s because treasure—or wealth—will always appeal to American sensibilities. And while no one is immune to this, I think there is a greater type of wealth that all of us need to be seeking: improved health for a better quality of life and a longer lifespan.
I think Ghandi said it best:
It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.
The best part about seeking out better health is that it is rarely a wild-goose chase; this is a realistic, attainable goal. In fact, most of us already know what we need to do, even if we don’t always know how.
This is where Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation Center can help, whether you are needlessly suffering from a painful condition such as lower back pain, neck pain, or sciatica or if you are ready to quit smoking, lose weight, or lower your blood pressure. Because we are a multi-disciplinary facility, we can also help with issues that go beyond the physical—such as depression and anxiety.
Our office is creating a new paradigm of care by incorporating all of the following healthcare modalities in one office:
- Non-Surgical Medical Care for Pain Management
- Physical Therapy
- Acupuncture
- Massage Therapy
- Chiropractic Care
Pain Management for Better Health
We all know that pain is a necessary, life-saving function of the human body. It helps us to know when to remove ourselves from dangerous or damaging situations, or when illness may be present in the body. Here’s how this works—nerve endings are stimulated and then send signals to the brain (where pain is experienced). What’s great is that, once pain becomes a problem in your life, you can seek out help and treat the cause of the symptom.
Unfortunately, this isn’t always how it works. Many people tend to ignore pain, hoping it will simply ‘go away’ on its own. In the meantime, living with pain places a large amount of unhealthy stress on the body that can have serious, long-term consequences. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to treat painful conditions as quickly as possible in order to avoid exacerbating the original problem or ending up with a chronic pain condition.
Acupuncture, Physical Therapy, and Chiropractic Care
Many years of dreaming and hard work went into the creation of Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation Center. Part of this dream was to create a medical office that views patients as a whole. In other words, we never look at a patient and see ‘back pain’—we see the entire person. This means understanding the physical, emotional, and social issues that are wrapped up in every person’s medical history.
By offering patients multiple treatment modalities in one location, we are in a position to provide care for every aspect of wellness. For example, we can use both physical therapy and acupuncture for weight loss. For some, chiropractic care might be part of a weight-loss treatment plan.
Another example is smoking cessation. Our Quit Smoking Now program uses acupuncture to alleviate painful withdrawal symptoms and help patients toward greater success. Acupuncture is also a great option for patients with mental health issues or hypertension.
