Pediatric Case of Scoliosis is Resolved at Monmouth Spine and Rehabilitation
Recently, we’ve been focusing a lot on patient success stories on this blog. I think this is a great way for current patients to reach out to new or possible patients to help them begin the process toward rehabilitation. For many people, starting a new type of treatment can cause anxiety or uncertainty; anything that alleviates that is good news to me.
Naturally, some of the most skittish patients are children. I am always thrilled when kids come to our office because I know that the earlier chiropractic treatment begins, the better overall lifetime health that individual is likely to experience.
One really common childhood health concern is scoliosis. I had one patient, a little girl from Rumson, NJ, who had been diagnosed by a pediatric orthopedic doctor with this condition.
What is Scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine. It generally develops between the ages of ten and sixteen, a time of rapid growth for most kids. It can also occur in infants, and usually affects more girls than boys.
At Monmouth Spine and Rehabilitation Center, we offer specialized chiropractic care that involves traction and exercise. For cases that do not require surgery (and the vast majority do not), chiropractic care is helpful on a number of levels: it can help to alleviate the scoliosis condition while leading to greater overall health. For children, beginning chiropractic care early can give them a head start in leading longer, healthier lives in general.
This particular patient received chiropractic adjustments; we also used traction as a part of her treatment plan. She was taught and practiced specific exercises at home as well.
In the end, x-rays revealed that our patient experienced a 50% improvement in her condition. This will help her to avoid putting additional stress on her overall health, which is extremely detrimental to the body in the long term. Reducing scoliosis also means avoiding muscle or organ dysfunction, as well as heart and lung conditions.
