Reducing or Eliminating Drug use through Holistic Care in Monmouth County

Before beginning any sort of treatment on a patient, I always make sure to ask a lot of questions. Like any doctor, I take a complete history of my patients before beginning a course of therapy.

During this initial consultation process, I notice that a lot of patients report taking an assortment of prescription and over-the-counter medications.  And I always wonder—if those drugs aren’t working, why are you still taking them?

Most of the time, patients continue to take medications in order to alleviate pain. But reducing pain is not the same thing as dealing with the cause of the pain. In fact, the pain itself serves a very useful purpose—it is the body’s method of telling your brain that something is very wrong. Blocking these pain messages is an easy way to ignore an unhealthy condition and (I promise you) it’s the best way to set your body on a path of poor health, both mental and physical.

I’m not saying that anybody should have to live with pain. But there are so many healthy, holistic healthcare options that taking drugs to deal with pain and the symptoms of various disorders is often not an intuitive choice. And it really is your responsibility to make the choice to seek out ways to protect your health while dealing with any type of pain condition or other disorder.

Many of our Monmouth County patients have reduced their dependence on pain medications and other types of drugs through chiropractic, acupuncture, physical therapy, and/or massage therapy. I’d like to share some of their stories here.

A Fibromyalgia Success Story

One Monmouth County patient—a woman with fibromyalgia—was suffering from the pain, fatigue, and reducing overall functioning associated with that disorder. Fibromyalgia is known to be a particularly difficult condition to treat. While under the care of both a rheumatologist and a neurologist, she was prescribed anti-convulsants and anti-depressants. She also received Prednisone, which was effective but is notorious for both its short-term side effects and the devastating consequences of long-term use.

This woman’s daughter recommended the doctors at Monmouth Spine and Rehabilitation Center, and four months later, this is what our patient had to say: “If you told me six months ago that I would now be under chiropractic care, I would have said you were crazy… [now] I would say I’m about 85% improved and I’m not taking any prescription drugs for my aches and pains.”

A Case of Drug-Free Pain Relief

Another patient visited our Red bank, New Jersey office for pain in his wrist. This pain was severely disabling, and our patient was unable to participate in any physical activities. After treatment at our rehabilitation center, he was able to discontinue the use of a number of medications—codeine, celebrex, pamelor, and anaprox. He commented (on our testimonials page): “My life has improved so much—I am more active, more alert, and [have] a lot less pain.”

Allergy Relief without Drugs

This story is one that I can personally relate to. I suffered for years with terrible allergies before discovering chiropractic. This patient came to my office with an initial complaint of asthma and allergies. She had also been living with long-term neck pain due to an auto accident. Her list of drugs included a steroid inhaler, an albuterol inhaler, medication for vertigo, decongestants, and antihistamines.

And today? “I no longer need any of the medications. I have learned that spinal health is imperative.”
