Gastritis is inflammation of the abdomen walls. I would make reference that stress can play a role in gastritis. This can cause an influx of stomach acid, which can then cause heartburn, burning or pain in the stomach, nausea and indigestion. In the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, gastritis is closely related with the dysfunction or imbalance of the Stomach, Liver, Spleen, or a combination of these systems. Acupuncture treatment will vary depending on the individual and diagnosis. Acupuncture can help by reducing stress and balancing out digestive function to alleviate pain.
There are two types of gastritis Acute and chronic. Acute gastritis occurs suddenly and chronic usually develops over time. The major causes of gastritis are excessive consumption of alcohol or the long term uses of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Other gastritis triggers may include:
- Pernicious anemia, a type of anemia resulting from the lack of a naturally occurring substance required for absorbing and digesting the vitamin B12
- Bile reflux, which there is a backflow of bile into the stomach from the tract that connects the gallbladder and liver
- Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) which is a bacterium that is found in the lining of the stomach
