Reducing Drug Use through Conservative Pain Management
Pain management and rehabilitation should work to reduce both the amount of medication needed to alleviate pain as well as the length of time a patient may require medication management.
Healthy pain management and rehabilitation practices should also be used whenever possible to avoid surgery. Surgeries for back pain, disc injuries, knee pain, and other conditions are sometimes necessary, but less often than they are actually prescribed. Far more surgeries are performed each year on patients that could have found relief through much less invasive practices such as physical therapy.
