By providing physical therapy, medical care/medication management, interventional pain management, acupuncture, and chiropractic care in our Red Bank, NJ rehabilitation office, Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation makes it possible for you to continue doing all of the things you love—skiing, running, etc. When it comes to knee pain, we’re offering more ways than ever to reduce pain, rehabilitate from injury, and get back in action.
Let’s face it: none of us is getting any younger. With age comes an increased risk of injury and pain. At this rate, we might as well throw in the towel—stop running, surfing, snowboarding. That stuff is for kids, right?
Of course not.
I turned 41 this year and I have no plans to accept that I can’t do all the activities I’ve been doing for years. No, I’m really not getting any younger, and neither are you. This might mean that, in the future, we’ll need to take steps to deal with age-related conditions, pain, or an increased risk for injury. But it definitely doesn’t mean that you have to stop moving. In fact, that’s pretty much the worst thing you can do.
Sedentary lifestyles can cause weight problems, pain, mental health issues (depression), and general malaise and poor health. What’s worse is that unhealthy habits tend to build on themselves in a cycle of increased pain, reduced activity, and even less desire to get out of the house and move.
Knee Pain and Viscosupplementation in Monmouth County
Today I’d like to talk about knee pain, a subject we’ve been focusing on a lot lately. Knee pain is a classic example of an injury that stops people from doing the things they love. Our recent spotlight on this condition is due to the overwhelming success we’ve been having with certain knee pain treatments, including Viscosupplementation.
Used as part of a conservative program of care for knee pain in our Red Bank office, Viscosupplementation is a minimally invasive procedure that replaces the natural lubricating fluid of your knee. This helps patients to experience more comfortable movement and restores the knees’ inherent shock-absorbing, spongy qualities.
You see, hyaluronic acid is produced by the body and is found in the synovial fluid of the knee joint. This thick liquid provides lubrication and prevents the bones of the joint from bearing the full burden of your weight when you walk. With age, this substance becomes thinner and less adept at providing the necessary lubrication and shock absorption. Viscosupplementation replaces lost or thinned hyaluronic acid in the synovial fluid.
Long-term studies have proven Viscosupplementation’s effectiveness in treating knee conditions. One study revealed that, six months after receiving treatment, most knee pain patients rated their knee condition as ‘excellent.’* Yet another study followed up with patients three months after treatment. Eight percent of the control group (those receiving medication or no care) experienced relief while 47% of patients undergoing viscosupplementation were pain-free.**
