Numb and Tingly Hands?
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a commonly occurring nerve injury caused by compression of the median nerve of the wrist.
The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway in the wrist, through which the median nerve travels. Compression of the nerve can result from a number of factors, such as: repetitive work tasks, such as hammering or tasks requiring excessive gripping, hand and wrist position, such as when working on the computer, hormonal changes during pregnancy, or certain health conditions such as diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis. Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome include numbness and tingling in the hand, pain in the hand and wrist, weakness, and decreased fine motor coordination and difficulty holding items. Symptoms are typically gradual, but worsen over time if left untreated. But luckily, early conservative treatment is proven effective! Early interventions such as activity modification, ergonomics, nerve gliding exercises, splinting, acupuncture, steroid injections, and cold laser can all be used to remediate and treat symptoms of carpal tunnel.
If you are having any carpal tunnel related symptoms, pain, or find you are spending more time on your computer working from home, early action is KEY!! Call 732-345-1377 and schedule an evaluation today!
